Easter is just around the corner, and the long weekend is the perfect time to unwind, indulge a little, and spend quality time with loved ones.

If you’re planning to enjoy some chocolate — and let’s be honest, who isn’t? — here are 10 smart and satisfying ways to make the most of it.

  1. Go dark. Look for chocolate with at least 70% cocoa solids. The higher the cocoa content, the richer the flavour — plus, it usually means less sugar and more antioxidants.
  2. Know your chocolate. Fun fact: white chocolate doesn’t actually contain cocoa solids — it’s mostly cocoa butter and sugar. Something to keep in mind if you’re looking for the health benefits of cocoa.
  3. Mix it up. Choose chocolate-coated nuts, coffee beans, or dried fruit. You’ll still get that chocolatey taste with a bonus of healthy fats, fibre, or a little caffeine kick.
  4. Think beyond chocolate. Consider non-edible Easter gifts — think bunny-themed toys, mini puzzles, books, or a homemade treat wrapped in Easter packaging. It’s thoughtful and fun (and tooth-friendly).
  5. Quality over quantity. Instead of a giant chocolate haul, opt for a small amount of high-quality chocolate. Savour it slowly — it’s more satisfying that way!
  6. Fruit + Chocolate = Win. Dip fresh strawberries or slices of banana in melted dark chocolate for a sweet, semi-healthy dessert.
  7. DIY sweet treats. Make your own protein balls with cocoa powder, oats, and nut butter. They’re filling, tasty, and perfect for a mid-afternoon pick-me-up.
  8. Hot cross buns with a twist. Try fruit or chocolate chip hot cross buns for an alternative to traditional Easter eggs — warm them up for extra yum!
  9. Date night (with chocolate). Stuff medjool dates with a few dark chocolate chips or almonds. It’s a naturally sweet, energy-boosting snack.
  10. Enjoy — mindfully. Chocolate is a treat, and Easter is a celebration! Allow yourself to indulge but keep portions in check. Your taste buds — and your energy levels — will thank you.
