Coaches and leading staff from sports clubs including Port Adelaide Football Club and the Parramatta Eels are coming to Flinders.
The Adelaide Athletic Development Conference 2017 will be held at Flinders at Tonsley on 19 November.
Sponsored by Flinders University’s Sport, Health and Physical Education (SHAPE) Research Centre, the conference is now in its second year. It focuses on long-term athletic development.
The conference was conceived by Flinders University postgraduate student Dylan Hicks, who is completing his research degree in biomechanics with SHAPE supervised by Associate Professor Claire Drummond and Dr Kym Williams.
The one-day event aims to promote applied knowledge and in the field of strength, conditioning and athletic development.
“I decided to set up this conference to expose students, coaches and athletes to a high level of professional development within their interest area,” Mr Hicks says.
“For current students undertaking a degree in exercise science, the conference not only provides an opportunity for knowledge transfer but also to learn about employment in the sports sector and roles to aspire to after graduating.”
The keynote presenters are Lachlan Wilmot, an athletic performance specialist with Parramatta Eels, and Nick Richardson, athletic development coach with Port Adelaide Football Club.
Other speakers are from the Adelaide Football Club, Glenelg Football Club and Adelaide Thunderbirds. Dr Kym Williams from SHAPE is also presenting.
