Business and marketing degree student Joel Lomman has put his study through its paces this football season, scoring real-world work experience to boot.
The Flinders student has combined his passion for football through a part-time work placement opportunity at South Adelaide Football Club.
“It’s a hectic time of year for the Panthers with only a few more games before the SANFL finals, but the opportunity to provide a placement for a student was too good to pass up,” says South Adelaide Football Club chief executive Neil Sharpe.
“Joel has fitted right into our marketing team, and has been able to provide us with the most up-to-date knowledge around in the areas of marketing and content creation.”
During the placement, Joel supporting the club’s Marketing and Media Coordinator in providing new stories and analysis for the SAFC website, as well as content for the club’s Panther News magazine.
Under the Flinders sponsorship agreement, the South Adelaide Football Club has been a strong supporter of providing placement opportunities for Flinders students. The club has previously hosted students from education, health sciences, physiotherapy, business and accounting, and humanities including creative writing in recent years.
Joel’s three-month placement will support his studies in his Advanced Leadership Bachelor of Business and Marketing and into the future as he enters the workforce.
“Seeing the hard work that goes into not only general marketing but the game-day experience for supporters has been inspiring and provides me with work experience that I add value when I am back on campus studying my degree,” Joel says.
“I’m specialising in marketing in my third and final year at Flinders, so have enjoyed putting forward my ideas while getting actively involved with a talented and hard-working football club.”
