Acclaim for new Flinders buildings

The Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer

The Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer (FCIC) building has won two awards as part of the Australian Institute of Architects’ 2013 South Australian Architecture awards program.

The recent SA Architecture Awards dinner saw the Woodhead design receive the Public Architecture – Architecture Award. The building also received the People’s Choice Award for best project.

The School of Biological Science’s Bio Discovery Centre, which was designed by Hassell architects, received a commendation in the public architecture category.

Responding to the award, Woodhead said the FCIC is unique in South Australia in its strategic focus on both cancer research and cancer care and treatment: “Through the design of the centre, which actively encourages dialogue and the exchange of ideas, there is the successful integration of researchers, clinicians and patients.”
