Flinders University to open India campus in Bengaluru in early 2027

Flinders University will establish an international campus in Bengaluru, bringing the quality of a Flinders education to one of the world’s leading technology and innovation capitals.

The milestone was sealed this week during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Australia, with Flinders officially receiving a Letter of Intent from India’s University Grants Commission. The announcement was made by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese as part of the agreements struck during the visit.

Set to open in early 2027, the campus will welcome its first undergraduate and postgraduate students into business and high-tech courses, including degrees in Business, Computer Science and Information Technology, alongside a Master of Information Technology and an MBA (Future Business), creating industry-connected pathways into Bengaluru’s booming innovation economy.

The campus will also open new exchange opportunities for Australian students, giving them a foothold in one of the world’s leading biotechnology, IT, software services and life sciences hubs.

Students from both countries will build the skills, networks and international experience needed to solve complex problems of scale in a global workforce.

The campus supports India’s National Education Policy 2020, which aims to broaden access to higher education by enabling leading international universities to establish campuses in India.

Flinders University Vice-Chancellor Professor Colin Stirling said the University was proud to be expanding into one of the world’s fastest-growing centres of innovation.

“Receiving approval from India’s University Grants Commission is a landmark moment for Flinders and an exciting step in our international journey,” Professor Stirling said.

“Our Bengaluru campus will bring a Flinders education into a place where ideas and innovation, technology and entrepreneurship are translated into real-world impact every day.

“Students will graduate with the same high-quality education, academic standards and industry focus that define a Flinders degree in Australia, while building the global perspective and professional networks that employers increasingly value.

“This is what it means to be a fearless university – not waiting for opportunity to come to us, but going out and creating it, wherever in the world that takes us.”

Professor Stirling said this is about more than establishing a campus overseas. “It is about creating enduring partnerships between Australia and India that strengthen education, research and industry collaboration, while opening new opportunities for students, academics and businesses in both countries.”

“We know that Flinders staff and students already have strong ties with India, and our new campus will help build long-lasting, meaningful connections in academia, high-tech industry and government.”

Flinders has long-standing partnerships with institutions across India, including engineering programs in Kerala and artificial intelligence research collaborations in Gujarat, plus a landmark strategic partnership with the University of Hyderabad focused on advancing digital healthcare.

More details about application dates and the Bengaluru campus will be announced later this year.
