Awards celebrate local champions who inspire

The search is on for exceptional male role models in South Australia who are positively contributing to their local communities.

Flinders University’s College of Education, Psychology and Social Work is celebrating outstanding South Australian men who are contributing to our society in the fields of sports, research, community, teaching and media.

Professor Raj Shekhawat

Professor Raj Shekhawat, from the College of Education, Psychology and Social Work says the awards will shine a light on those men who through their words and deeds are acting as inspirational role models to boys and young men as part of a larger event dedicated to celebrating their positive contributions.

“Flinders University recognises the importance of valuing male role models in addressing issues with men’s mental and physical health, and in fostering positive gender relations,” says Professor Shekhawat.

“Winners will be men who have inspired, enabled or supported other men, women and youth in the community, and could include a teacher, volunteer, coach, artist, researcher or innovator.

“We encourage anyone to nominate a man they admire, or equally welcome men to self-nominate, and encourage everyone to take this opportunity to celebrate the men who are making a difference in South Australia,” he says.

Flinders University has a series of initiatives in the diversity, equity and inclusion space and is currently ranked 8th in the world for gender equality by the Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings.

“We will continue to support girls and women, while also encouraging men to make a great contribution,” he adds.
