Hundreds more international students will make their way to South Australia in the coming years after the official opening of Flinders University Academy, the new international pathway model from Flinders University.
Officially launched by Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC, Governor of South Australia, Flinders University Academy will attract more students to South Australia as the sector continues to recover from the pandemic.
Offering real-world knowledge, specialist teachers and bespoke support, Flinders University Academy combines innovative courses with teaching delivery focused on the needs of international students.
The Academy offers both standard and accelerated diplomas courses across the extent of the University’s operations, as well as Pre-Masters, Foundation Studies and ELICOS programs.
The first cohort of students began in trimester 1 2023 and are enrolled in courses across all the Academy’s offerings, with more students scheduled to begin their studies in 2023.
Foundations Program student Honesio Gabriel Alves Pereira arrived at Flinders two months ago and has since been immersed in all that the Academy has to offer.
‘I love the environment at Flinders as an international student – there are people from different countries and cultures that bring their different ideas that are teaching me a lot,’ says Honesio.
‘As an Academy student, I have access to all of Flinders’ support, and activities around the campus have been really welcoming. I explored the activities on campus during O’Week and have been using Oasis as a study space – I think I’ve had the best experience so far at Flinders University.’
Before starting a Bachelor of Disability and Community Inclusion next year, Honesio is taking the opportunity to improve on a range of skills for the future.
‘Not only am I learning a lot academically, but I’m also being taught about professionalism that is helping me improve my professional skills for the future.’
Flinders University Vice-President and Pro Vice-Chancellor (International) Sebastian Raneskold welcomed students to Flinders University and is excited at the future prospects that the Academy will bring to South Australia.
‘It is wonderful to welcome our first cohort of Flinders University Academy students to South Australia, and to Flinders’ beautiful Bedford Park campus,’ says Mr Raneskold.
‘International students are not only an integral part of our community here at Flinders but play a vital role in ensuring diverse and engaging communities around the country.’
‘With the opening of Flinders University Academy, more international students than ever before will now have the opportunity to live, learn and stay and work in South Australia, bringing their perspectives and vitality to Flinders campuses and playing their unique roles in making South Australia such a wonderful place to call home.’
