The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) 2020 subject ranking charts Flinders University’s pleasing improvement in a range of key disciplines.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Colin Stirling says the positive result reflects Flinders University’s recent strategic investment in research and education.
“Our University has risen to 13th in the world for water resources, and nursing has advanced into the 51 to 75 category. Other areas of significant improvement include material science and engineering, pharmaceutical sciences and psychology.”
Flinders University has consolidated its reputation for world class research in the majority of subject areas including public health, education, and hospitality and tourism, which rank in the 151-200 category.
“We also recently received the news that we have climbed seven places to 38th in the world in this year’s Times Higher Education ‘Golden Age’ rankings which is another wonderful reflection on our research, but also the quality of our teaching and education.
“These ranking results reflect underlying improvements in performance in both research and teaching and bode well for our future. Coupled with our transformational modernisation program, we are well placed to meet future challenges including those presented by the coronavirus pandemic.
“We’re delivering research that is tackling the challenges of our times and creating graduates with strong critical thinking skills who are well-prepared for the workplace, through our strong industry engagement, our exceptional staff, and our world-class facilities.” Professor Stirling says.
Published by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the ARWU rankings assess several indicators of academic or research performance, including alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, highly cited researchers, papers published in the journals Nature and Science, papers indexed in major citation indices, and an institution’s per capita academic performance.
