Commitment to student support, high quality teaching and full time employment in good paying jobs is reflected in Flinders University’s excellent performance in the 2020 Good Universities Guide.
Flinders is the #1 university in South Australia for
• teaching quality
• student support
• student teacher ratio (18:1)
• student retention
• starting salary
and has also achieved a 5 star rating for learning resources and improved in full time employment.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students) Professor Clare Pollock says Flinders’ student centred ethos, high calibre staff and outstanding facilities underpinned its strong result.
“We have set our course to become a world leader in research, an innovator in contemporary education and the source of Australia’s most enterprising graduates, and we are increasingly delivering” Professor Pollock says.
“Our exceptional quality teaching, nationally unique innovation and entrepreneurship topics offered across all courses, and partnerships that are offering real world skills development ensure Flinders graduates are set for success.”
Professor Pollock says the detailed findings in study fields show Flinders’ headline results are backed by substantial performance in key disciplines.
In Business and Management, Flinders achieved 5 star or best-in-state performance in all six educational experience metrics of learner engagement, learning resources, overall quality of educational experience, skills development, student support and teaching quality.
In Science and Mathematics, Flinders was best-in-state and 5 star rated in every educational experience metric and also best-in-state and 5 star rated for median salary.
In Engineering Flinders rated best in Australia for learning resources, and best-in-state for student support and full time employment, along with a 5 star rating for skills development.
In a new field of Rehabilitation Flinders rated best-in-Australia for learner engagement, skills development and overall quality of educational experience, and best in state for teaching quality, full time employment and median salary.
In Creative Arts Flinders was best-in-state and 5 star rated for teaching quality, skills development and overall quality of educational experience, and the SA leader for full time employment.
In Medicine Flinders led the state in learning resources, student support and teaching quality.
Professor Pollock says the strong showing in 5 star ratings – placing Flinders in the top echelon of universities nationally – was all the more impressive considering the Good Universities Guide has lifted the threshold from 76% to 78% for the 2020 ratings.
“Overall Flinders was the national leader in 4 educational experience metrics, achieved 5 stars in 36 metrics across educational experience and graduate outcomes, and was rated best-in-state no less than 50 times – a stellar performance, and one we are actively building on” Professor Pollock says.
Flinders University is investing an additional $100m in education and $100m in research over the next five years to continue strengthening its offerings to students, and recently announced a major campus expansion – Flinders Village – to increase education and research facilities, student accommodation and community amenities.
