Flinders University is targeting student success, international growth and high-impact research in its bold new strategic plan being launched today.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Colin Stirling says The 2025 Agenda – Making a Difference builds on 50 years of inspiring achievement and charts a course for the continued success of one of Australia’s most innovative universities.

The plan sets ambitious targets in education and research, with a clear focus on the impact the University can have for individuals and across society at large.

‘In our 50th year, we are setting a bold course for the future that will elevate us to the top 10 of Australian universities, and the top 1% in the world by 2025,’ Professor Stirling says.

‘Our focus on embedding personal enterprise skills across both our curriculum and workforce will create career-ready graduates who will enhance our reputation for being innovative and engaging.

‘We will continue our focus on extending our structured approach to start-ups to the wider community, supporting many more to develop their very own businesses and grow the economy.

‘Recent investments across our campuses have created the infrastructure we need for 21st century research and education. Last week’s announcement by state and federal governments of an $85 million rail extension to Flinders is an important step.

‘It brings Flinders within 20 minutes of the CBD and will be the catalyst for University-led developments that will create one of the largest innovation districts in Australia and provide a vibrant urban focus for students, staff and local residents,’ Professor Stirling says.

‘Flinders will be world renowned for its campus-based educational offerings, where student accommodation, world-class research, teaching excellence and innovation facilities are incorporated in one interconnected, vibrant precinct, providing an outstanding student experience.’

Professor Stirling says The 2025 Agenda is proudly the product of the Flinders community.

‘I’ve consulted widely across the University and been impressed by the passion of our staff and our students, and also by the hundreds of ideas and opinions that have come forward from across our Flinders community,’ he says.

‘At a time of disruptive change and extraordinary challenges we’re also giving our strategic plan the best possible foundations for success by basing it on core values that speak to the very essence of Flinders.

‘Developed through University-wide consultations, our shared values and common ethos will enable us to achieve the ambitions set out in The 2025 Agenda,’ Professor Stirling says.
