Flinders appoints new leader to shape the future of nursing and health sciences

Flinders University has appointed Professor Tracy Humphrey as the new Vice-President and Executive Dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, following an extensive international search.

An accomplished academic leader with a distinguished career across Australia and the UK, Professor Humphrey brings a deep commitment to improving health outcomes through education, research, and workforce transformation.

Professor Humphrey will commence in the role on 1 September 2025.

A recognised clinical academic, Professor Humphrey has led national workforce development in maternal and child health, helped shape education standards in midwifery, and pioneered innovative approaches to simulation-based and interprofessional learning.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Colin Stirling welcomed the appointment, describing Professor Humphrey as a formidable academic leader of national and international standing.

“Professor Humphrey joins Flinders at a time of tremendous opportunity,” Professor Stirling said.

“Her deep expertise in nursing, midwifery and allied health education, coupled with her success in growing research performance and workforce development, makes her ideally suited to lead the College at this exciting time for Flinders University.”

Professor Humphrey’s appointment comes as Flinders University prepares to deliver the Flinders HealthCARE Centre — its most ambitious health initiative to date.

Set to become a world-class clinical and research facility at the University’s Bedford Park campus, the Centre will significantly expand community access to student-led medical, nursing and allied health services in Adelaide’s southern suburbs.

It will also help ease pressure on the public health system, reduce outpatient waitlists, and train an additional 1,300 health professionals each year.

Professor Humphrey said she is honoured to be joining Flinders University at such a pivotal time.

“I’m excited to lead the College as we bring the Flinders HealthCARE Centre to life and create a truly integrated environment for education, care and research,” Professor Humphrey said.

“This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of health education while delivering real benefits for patients, families, and communities.

“I look forward to working with colleagues, students, and partners across the health system to bring this vision to life.”
