Flinders has signed an agreement with Telstra that will see the company become the University-wide telecommunications carrier for the next three years.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Michael Barber met last week with Telstra’s State Director, Mr Michael Luchich. to sign the agreement.

The University’s Pro Vice-Chancellor (Information Services), Professor Richard Constantine, said the agreement represents a commercially attractive deal that also has the benefit of giving Flinders a single supplier and uniform services across its various campuses.

“This will enable the University to pursue its strategic goals by delivering a worldwide set of product and service offerings,” Professor Constantine said.

“As the University’s carrier, Telstra will be helping to support the major investment in information technology infrastructure Flinders has commenced over the past year.

“We will also explore the possibilities of extending our relationship with Telstra in other areas as time goes on.”

Professor Constantine said the change will have minimal impact for users, with fixed phones and University-supplied mobile phones migrating to Telstra services over the next four to six weeks.

No phone numbers will be changed in the process.

While staff with Telstra SIMs in their University mobile devices will be transferred automatically, staff with mobile phones, tablets or other devices that require conversion will be supplied with Telstra SIM cards by staff from Information Technology Services.
