Flinders researcher Dr Yvonne Parry will describe how the struggles faced by homeless children affect them for the rest of their lives during a fundraising weekend to provide them with school uniforms, books and other essential items.
The fundraising efforts, this weekend, are being led by the Who Cares? We Care! committee at Homelessness SA – a network supporting children who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
ARIA award winner Kavisha Mazzella will provide world class entertainment at the Saturday afternoon and Sunday evening events, which include door prizes, giveaways and DJs.
Unfair disadvantages
“Homeless children face many unfair disadvantages, which often negatively affect them for the rest of their lives, so providing essential items like school uniforms can have a positive impact far beyond what most people realise,” said Dr Parry (pictured).
“No child should have to face these kinds of challenges and I believe each of us has a responsibility to take every opportunity we can to improve their experiences of childhood.
“I hope the general public will find it in their hearts to contribute to this incredibly important and worthy cause.”
