$85m rail approval brings students to Flinders’ front door

Students from across Adelaide will find it even easier to get to Flinders University thanks to the $85 million Flinders Link rail extension which has now been approved by State Parliament’s Public Works Committee.

Flinders University Vice-Chancellor Professor Colin Stirling says the extension of the Tonsley rail line and creation of a new station servicing the University and Flinders hospitals is a game changer for the south.

“Providing students with fast, reliable and affordable access to Flinders University will transform the southern Adelaide region.

“It means students from anywhere in Adelaide can access our exceptional courses and the outstanding campus experience we’re noted for.

“This is also fantastic news which supports our ambitions for the future. Flinders is developing a master plan for future growth to expand teaching and research facilities, student accommodation and community amenity, and certainty around the rail development will help our planning to progress.

“The committee’s decision is an important milestone – it’s good news for communities in the south, the creation of jobs, and economic growth in SA.

“I congratulate the Public Works Committee for its endorsement of this project, and again acknowledge both the State and Federal governments for their foresight in funding this important infrastructure investment to foster innovation and growth” Professor Stirling says.
